Siwaratri on 17/01/2007, tonight in bali

Today on january 17th,2007 is "siwaratri" day in bali. I am siiting infront of my computer try to write about "siwaratri" , hopefully you can undertand and get the red line what is siwaratri day. Siwaratri celebration is by doing "monobrata"(no speak),"upawasa" (fasting) and "jagra"(keep awake all night/no sleep).according the legend this festival was written by Mpu (high priest) Tanakung (1466-1478 A.D.) It is about an ordinary man who finally found his self-identity. The story was about a human being who was spending his life on sinful secular desire but then became aware of the essence of morality.
Once upon a time, there was a hunter named Lubdaka who went to a forest to hunt animals. As the sun set, he decided to stay in the forest for the night. The night was ‘panglong ping 14, sasih kepitu’ (the 14th day of the half dark moon of the 7th month), the Siwaratri night.
To avoid the danger of wild animals he climbed up a ‘maja’ tree and to avoid falling out of the tree he started picking up the tree’s fallen leaves one by one. However, he did not realize that the leaves were falling onto the Siwa- Lingga (a Hindu shrine of God Siwa).
At sunrise, he climbed down and went back home, and disappointed his family when he told them that he had found nothing in the forest.
Time went by, and one day Lubdaka became seriously ill and died. His corpse was then cremated, and his spirit became arbitrary, without any direction. So the God Siwa asked Ganabala (the troops of Siwa’s heaven) to pick him up and bring him to meet Siwa.
God Yama (the god of death) sent Yamabala (the troops of Yama) to arrest Lubdaka because he had been a hunter who killed animals.
Meanwhile the Ganabala arrived, but they were surprised to find that Lubdaka was being punished by the Yamabala. Because of the nature of their duties, a large battle between the two troops could not be avoided, and ended in victory for the Ganabala, who then picked up Lubdaka to meet God Siwa. In heaven God Siwa bestowed Lubdaka with a great place for his good behavior on the holy night of Siwaratri.
