Holy Bathing Ritual in Bali at the sacred temple

Holy Bathing ritual at Tirtha Empul Temple, Bali is the island of thousands temple.If you come to Bali, you'll find a lot of temple arround Bali. Temple or the Balinese called "Pura" is the holy place for the Hindu Balinese worship the God. One of the important temple in Bali is Tirta Empul Temple. This temple is located at Tampaksiring village, Gianyar Regency. The temple name is Tirta Empul. Tirta empul is come from the word "tirta", means holy water, and "empul" means spring water. Tirta Empul Temple was built in 10th century under the rule of Sri Candrabhaya Singha Warmadewa and fully restorated in 1969. The temple of Tirta Empul was built to dedicated Indra God.

A legends tells the story about how the God Indra created the spring in Tirta Empul. When Indra are fighting against the King Maya Denawa, Maya Denawa had poisoned the Petanu River, from which the warriors of Indra drank at the end they died, and Indra god is very angry and stab his dagger to the earth and holy water which refer to amertha comes out from the ground, the healing water which brought his soldiers back to life.

Tirta empul temple devided into 3 courtyards. The holy spring water is located in the main yard, beside the shines. And the bathing area is located at the first yard. The people from all over Bali and also beyond Bali, come to this temple to take a bath in the holy water. You can see the people bathing in the ponds that has seven spouts, and you can also join them!(Don't worry about the place to change your clothes, they have toilets and also locker to put your change clothes), in bali known as wisata bali
before you go to the ponds, the first ritual is pray to the God and serve canang (simple offering). After praying, the next ritual is holy bathing (the Balinese call it 'Melukat') at the ponds with 7 spouts. The water of the water spouts comes from the sring water at the main yard of the temple. The water is fresh and cold. Each waterspout have a different function, like prosperity, cure illness, and pregnancy. After bath in the ponds with 7 spouts, the next ritual is bath in the pond with 2 spouts, smaller but known to be the most pure. After bathing, the poeple gathered in the main yard to pray. You will get some rice and also holy water after praying as a blessing.
